Instructions
Lay bread on a cutting board. Use a bread knife to make diagonal cuts down through the top of the bread, leaving the crust intact. Repeat across the entire surface of the bread, making the cuts approximately one inch apart. Turn the bread 90 degrees and make a set of perpendicular cuts. When you are finished, the surface of the bread should be cross-hatched into 1-inch squares.
Place bread on an aluminum foil sheet large enough to cover the bread on a sheet pan. Set aside. Fry bacon till crisp. Remove from the pan, add a tbs butter and saute mushrooms till brown. In a small pan over med heat, melt 4 tbsp butter with garlic. Once it starts to sizzle, remove from heat and let sit for 10 minutes to allow garlic to infuse the butter.
Place bread on foil on a sheet pan. Using a pastry brush or spoon, spread a little garlic butter in between each square. Pour any leftovers over the top of the bread. Spoon mushrooms and bacon evenly into each square. Do the same with the cheese. Loosely wrap the bread in foil and bake for 20 minutes. Open foil and bake 10 minutes longer or till GBAD (golden brown and delicious- in case you forgot our newly acclaimed acronym).
